A BOOK 14 YEARS IN THE MAKING!

In 2011, I was selling my books at a market when my friend Tansy (Hi Tansy!) came by and said, "Adam, you should be called Hatman because you always wear hats."
BAM! I immediately had a vision of a superhero in a hat, pulling a crook in close.
CROOK: Who are you?
HATMAN: I'm Hatman.
CROOK: You're Batman? You don't look like Batman.
HATMAN: What? No, not Batman! Hatman! Hatman Hatman Hatman!

And so the idea was born. I got home and started writing a draft ...

It didn't feel right, so I tried another angle ... and another and another and another and ANOTHER!
Eight times, in fact, up to 2013, but none of them worked. So I put it aside ...
Then, in 2023, TEN YEARS LATER, I was on a plane to beautiful Bali, and Hatman popped into my head again!
I started writing a new version and, on the very first page, Harvey sang a little ad jingle.
"Oh my gosh," I thought. "It's a musical!"
​And off I went. 

FIFTY DRAFTS LATER in 2025, here we are! I tried it as an illustrated chapter book, a full graphic novel, a mixture of the two, more songs, less songs, different songs, tweaks here and there, and finally it became the version it is today.
That made it time to find the greatest illustrator (James Hart!), the top designer (Kristy Lund-White!), the coolest music-maker (Drew Lane!) and amazing singers (Madeleine Featherby, Mitch Groves, Scott Edgar and Lia Scantlebury!)!

And now we have the book, which you read as normal then, when you get to a song, you scan a QR Code and can watch a video of the song, listen to it and read along in the book, or ignore the songs and read it like a normal book! 
All we need now are the best readers and singalongerers ... and that's YOU!
